When someone searches your business name, Google shows your website link at the top. Below it sit four sitelinks, which are shortcuts to specific pages. A plumber might see links to "Emergency Service", "Water Heater Repair", "Request Quote", and "Reviews". You don't leave sitelinks to Google's choice. If you don't claim them, Google guesses. Those guesses often point to low-intent pages like your privacy policy or a buried FAQ.
Why sitelinks matter for service bookings
Branded search traffic is high-intent. The person typing your business name already knows you exist and wants to contact you or learn more. A sitelink to your booking page cuts friction. A sitelink to your service area or pricing page answers the second question before they click. Sitelinks don't change your ranking, but they change click behavior. A visitor who lands on a specific service page books faster than one who lands on your homepage and has to navigate.
- Link to your booking or quote request form
- Link to your primary service category with highest search volume
- Link to your service area or coverage radius page
- Link to a testimonials or gallery page if you don't have reviews yet
How to claim and customize sitelinks in Google Business Profile
Sitelinks live in Google Business Profile, not Search Console. Open your GBP account, go to "Profile", scroll to "Sitelinks", and click "Add". You can add up to ten. Google will suggest pages based on your site structure. Don't accept all suggestions. Delete any that don't lead to a conversion point. Name them clearly. "Get a Free Quote" converts better than "Services".
Each sitelink needs a headline and a URL. The headline appears as blue text in the SERP. Keep it under forty characters so it doesn't truncate on mobile. The URL can point anywhere on your website, not just your homepage. Test this: search your business name on mobile and desktop. Do the sitelinks appear? If not, your site might have indexing issues or your GBP account verification might be stalled.
Protect your branded search from competitor overlap
If you operate in a service category with common names, a competitor's business might rank near yours. A plumbing company called "Emergency Services" could see a listing for "Emergency Locksmith Services" appear beside it. This doesn't push you down, but it creates confusion. Verify your GBP with a phone call, not just postcard, to strengthen your claim. Add your business hours, service areas, and multiple phone numbers. Google rewards verified, complete profiles in branded search results.
Sitelinks don't rank you higher, but they convert higher. Someone searching your name has already decided you exist. Point them to the action you want them to take.
Monitor sitelink performance monthly
Google Business Profile doesn't show sitelink click data natively. Check Google Search Console for performance data on your branded queries. Filter for your business name and look for click-through rate and average position. If your CTR on branded search drops month to month, audit your sitelinks. You might be pointing to outdated pages or pages that don't load fast on mobile. Update sitelinks quarterly as your service mix changes or seasonality hits.
- Review sitelink performance in Google Search Console monthly
- Update sitelinks when you launch a new service or seasonal offering
- Test sitelink URLs on mobile before publishing
- Remove sitelinks that haven't been clicked in 90 days
