A visitor plans a trip to your region. They search 'where to stay near hiking' or 'local restaurants with outdoor seating' or 'weekend getaway cabins under two hours away.' If your destination website doesn't answer that question, the visitor goes elsewhere, a competitor's content ranks, and their bookings go up instead of yours.

Map the Questions Your Visitors Ask

Start by listing the types of trips people take to your destination. Use the categories they actually search for. A ski town gets searches for 'après ski restaurants,' not just 'dining.' A beach destination gets 'pet-friendly beach rentals,' not just 'vacation homes.'

Pull search data from Google Search Console (what queries bring people to your site) and Google Trends (what's searched about your region). Look for patterns. Are visitors asking about specific accommodations? Seasonal activities? Accessibility? Day-trip ideas? Family-friendly options?

Audit What Your Site Actually Covers

A list of 30 restaurants doesn't answer 'where should I eat tonight?' A curated guide of 5 restaurants by cuisine and vibe does.

Check What Competitors Rank For

Search the high-value questions in your list, the ones that likely drive bookings. Look at the top 3–5 results. Are they competitor destination boards? Third-party travel sites? Individual hotel or restaurant sites? If your site isn't in the top 5, visitors are finding answers elsewhere.

Pay close attention to pages that rank but come from other destinations. If a travel guide ranks for 'best romantic weekend getaways within 2 hours' and your region qualifies, that's a question your destination site should own but doesn't.

Build Content Around High-Intent Queries

Each page should be written for the visitor's actual decision, not a business inventory. Include photos, dates, price ranges, booking links, and honest descriptions of what to expect.
